Event in Pattieio Municipal Theater – Limassol, Cyprus “The History of Cyprus travels the world”

On the 21st of October 2019, Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism held a second event in Cyprus, this time in Limassol, in the Pattihio Municipal Theater. The goal of the event “The History of Cyprus travels the world”, was to inform the audience about the ambition of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism to translate the two-volume work “History of Cyprus” to English and to send 3.000 copies to the libraries of foreign centers of power (U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Great Britain, European Union) for free.

The response to this event was great and touching, just as it was to the one that had preceded in Limassol, in the 24th of June 2019. The guests expressed their admiration towards the work of Melathron and its titanic effort to make the history of Cyprus travel to libraries abroad. Their admiration was multiplied by watching the documentary of Ecumenical Hellenism which presented the travelogue of the foundation to the whole world and its visit to the Hellenism of all the lengths and widths of the earth.

The president of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism, Stavros Panousopoulos, referred in total, to his 30-year-old restless effort, so that the Greek ideals, the Greek language and history and the Greek culture get rescued and projected abroad. He expressed his admiration to the Greek-Cypriot Nation for its creativity, hard work, its love for the homeland and its history and also its endurance to all the drama it has experienced with the last one being the invasion of ’74. He officially announced the ambition and focus of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism, that the two-volume work, “History of Cyprus”, “travel” abroad and become property of Greek expatriates and foreigners. Clearly touched by his last visit to the ghost city in the Famagusta boarders, he professed that in the future, the next chapter that will be connected to Cyprus, will be about Famagusta, the open wound that is still bleeding.

The Presidency Commissioner, Fotios Fotiou, attended the event and in his speech, after he expressed his admiration and congratulated Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism for its work, he promised a brave help so that its ambition gets fulfilled. He touched the audience by mentioning that all Greeks, inside and outside boarders, owe to know the history, whatever happened and defined the future of the place. He also stressed the need of the creation of a communication bridge with the Expatriates and the multiple benefits this will bring.

The great benefactors and supporters of our foundation in Cyprus, Mr. Toumazis Toni and Mr. Pattihis Charalambos, stepped onto the podium and referred to the emotion they felt when they learned about the efforts of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism for Cyprus and to the obligation they felt to help with all their powers. Something that they did and promised to do again in the future, with every new effort of the foundation.

The High Commissioner of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism for Cyprus, Georgios Christofidis, moved the audience, once again, with his speech, with the description of his course and action since his service as the President of the World Federation of Overseas Cypriots. He identified with the aims and work of Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism and encouraged the audience to support the effort of translation of the two-volume work in English.

The last speech was of the copy editor of the publication “History of Cyprus”, professor Savvas Neokleous. He briefly informed the audience on the content of the two-volume work and he highlighted the strenuous effort of the scientific research and composition of the work and also the importance of its translation to English and its distribution to foreign centres of power.

During the artistic part of the event, Petros Gaitanos enchanted the audience with his imperishable voice and the exquisite songs he chose to perform.

Special regards to the distinct journalist of ΑΝΤΕΝΝΑ Nikolas Vafiadis, fellow companion of Melathron for years, who travelled to Cyprus exclusively for the presentation of the event and received dithyrambic comments.

Εvent in the Cultural Center of Kykkos Monastery, Nicosia – Cyprus

In the presence of 400 guests, the event of “Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism” was held in the Cultural Centre of Kykkos Monastery, in Archangelo, Nicosia on Monday the 24th of June. Despite the three-day national mourning for the loss of dearly-departed Christofias and because the event was of national content, a mass of people attended to experience unique moments. Everyone was very emotionally charged after watching the documentary that presented the travelogue of “Ecumenical Hellenism” all over the world, where they witnessed the feats and drama of Hellenism. A Hellenism that is alive, creates, excels, participates in global affairs and one that, in some parts of the world (Latin America, Mexico), abandoned by the mother country, slowly dies but is resisting.

A very special moment was when the well-known artist, Mimi Denisi, and the fighter, the real representative of Cypriot – Greek soul, Georgios Christofidis, were appointed High Commissioners of “Ecumenical Hellenism”. Mimi Denisi, moved, connected in her speech, her artistic work with the actions of “Ecumenical Hellenism” and did not refuse to get photographed with anyone, proving the range of an important personality. Georgios Christofidis, with his speech and his passion, with simple and humane words which included meanings of soul and struggle, received the distinction stressing that “until today, you were the only ones to have honoured me”.

The applause for the maestro Maro Mitsa, the dance performance of PA.SI.DI and piano player Marios Ioannou that kindly accompanied the event was very special.

A big impression and endless flattering words for the journalist of Antenna Nikolas Vafiadis, who travelled exclusively for the presentation of the event.

The University professor and scientific supervisor of Melathron closed the event looking back at the night and among other things he said “we have held numerous events in Greece and all over the world, but what we experienced today in the Martyric Great Island is unique.”

Lastly, the president of “Melathron Ecumenical Hellenism” Stavros Panousopoulos,  who has dedicated his whole life  (36 years) to the recording of the unwritten history of Greece and to the international historical information provision on our national matters, especially charged, stood in the following “on this planet, except for the wild nature, nothing else is moving, that is not Greek” and repeated that “if someone doesn’t experience the Cypriots from up close, they cannot understand what it means to be Greek”. At the end of the event, Maro Mitsa invited him on stage and they performed together “An voulitho”. It was a big surprise that the president reciprocated but at the end everyone, standing, applauded this unique moment they had experienced.

Event at the Philology Association “Parnassos” – Athens

In the presence of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Mr. Ieronimos, a toll was carried out for the 20 years of our action and the beginning of our ten year program recording the Migration of Hellenism was announced.

“Values ​​are not bought. They need struggle, blood and effort, “stressed the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos, at the event for the 20 years of the Foundation of Ecumenical Hellenism.

The event took place on February the 8th 2016, at the Parnassus Philological Association, which was packed by friends of the Foundation. Academics, Clergy, athletes and people with general worries. Deputy Minister on Foreign Affairs for Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Giannis Amanatidis, attended.

The event started with traditional dances and the event’s presenter was Professor Athanasios Agelopoulos, scientific supervisor of the Program. Afterwards, audiovisual material with the title “Traveling, wherever there is Hellenism” was presented.

The Archbishop was honored with the “Golden Crown” of Ecumenical Hellenism by the Program’s President Stavros Panousopoulos, who referred to the ten-year program of the record-census of Greek Hellenism that is our national capital.

The Archbishop in his speech stressed that “Hellenism outside Greece is a great subject that we usually pass”. He mentioned about the previous projection that “admittedly this trip we saw was impressive and substantial. The messages that one can take from what has been heard are many. “The Archbishop especially mentioned  a school in Africa that the mission visited, the Shaheti-Golem School , saying “we saw hundreds of children holding the images of the rebellion. I thought, said the Archbishop, that if we made a visit today to any school and show the figures of Kolokotronis or Karaiskakis, the children would not understand. Because it is considered deviant for these figures to embellish the walls of our schools and are now thrown into the warehouses. This is something that must cause concern. To ask why there are no values ​​today. We believe that the values ​​can be purchased at the supermarket. Values, however, are not bought. They need struggle, blood, effort. And this is difficult to meet today. ”

Afterwards, the Archbishop, after stressing that such events are an oasis in the present time, awarded honorable distinctions to personalities who support the work of the Foundation of Ecumenical Hellenism.

More specifically, he awarded honors ​​to the following:

• Stavrakouka Eudokia, a lawyer in Giannitsa.
• Kotsiri Ioanna, physician from Patras.
• Messini Vera, psychologist-President of the Humanities Association for the charity work it offers.
• Folkloric Society of Keratea “Apollo” that impressed and touched the audience with its dancers.

“Greece never…dies”

The event “Greece will never die” of the FOUNDATION OF ECUMENICAL HELLENISM, with the blessing of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronimos, was held with great success on the 19th of March 2012 in the TERPSICHORI Hall of the Athens HILTON.

During the event, which presented the work of our foundation’s 16 most recent years, Greek personalities were awarded for their contribution to Science, Culture and Arts, such as:

• Nanopoulos Dimitrios, Academic, Distinguished Professor of Physics at Texas A & M University
• Pharatzi-Rita Yuli, painter
• George Kalakallas, sculptor
• Vougiouklakis Takis, Director
• other celebrities

The feeling we got is that the Greeks, understanding the problems we are experiencing due to the unpleasant economic circumstances of the country, now and more than ever, have to join forces so that “Greece will never …….. die. ”

President Stavros Panousopoulos, in his speech, pointed out:

“As we survived the four hundred years of Turkish slavery, as we overtook the speech of Harilaos Trikoupis ‘we sadly went bankrupted’, as we endured the twentieth century with two world wars, with Balkan conflicts, with German occupation and civil war, that is how we will survive today. This is for sure!

We are co-responsible for all. Both good and bad. It is up to us to overthrow this pessimistic climate and the occupational conditions we are experiencing now.

But to do this, we must return to our values, our ideals that we have as race and people. We must return to legality, we must regain our pride “.

Greek Celebration. PAOK Sports Arena – Thessaloniki

We celebrated with songs of Thrace, Pontus and Asia Minor that were sung by Charis Aidonidis and Petros Gaitanos.

Songs and dances from Thrace, Pontus and Asia Minor, from special performers, added a spectacular note to the great “Feast of the Greeks”, which was organized by the Program “Ecumenical Hellenism” on Saturday June 5th,  in the closed stadium “PAOK SPORTS ARENA” in Thessaloniki.

In the artistic part of the program, the “Nightingale of the East”, Chronis Aidonidis, Petros Gaitanos and the Pontian band Tectonidis – Pavlidis gave a spectacular performance, in the closed stadium “PAOK SPORTS ARENA”, while the traditional bands presented traditional dances and songs from the unforgettable homelands.

During the event, the “Golden Crown” of Ecumenical Hellenism, was awarded to the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Mr. Anthimos and the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Panagiotis Psomiadis, for taking the event under their auspices.

Honored for their offers, were Professor Kostas Fotiadis and the President of the Saint Mary of Soumela Foundation, Mr. Giorgos Tanimanidis.

The event was presented by the actor Giorgos Giannopoulos.

Greek Parliament

The continuation and the course of the program are fulfilled, after the invitation for attendance towards the Chairman of the Permanent Special Committee for Emigrating Hellenism, Mr. Nikolaos Tsartsionis.

The Chairman of the Permanent Special Committee of the Hellenic Parliament on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikolaos Tsartsionis, invited Mr. Stavros Panousopoulos, President of the Program “Ecumenical Hellenism”, and Mr. Athanasios Agelopoulos, Professor of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Scientific Supervisor of the program to present their activities.

After a presentation of their activities, a discussion followed with the members of the Department. It is noteworthy that this time, the whole meeting, lasting 3 hours, was covered by the topic “Ecumenical Hellenism”.

Foundation of the Hellenic World – Athens

Subject: The beginning of the dispatch of the publication “Greek Treasures around the World” to the foreign centers of power. The Worldwide committee for the return of the Parthenon marbles attended. A vote was announced and the event was presented by the journalist Eirini Nikolakopoulou. Tony Maroudas sang.

The event started with the presentation of the Program’s History and it’s missions to the Centers of Hellenism around the world. Then, the President of the Program Stavros Panousopoulos, announced the first mission to the European Parliament in Brussels on December the 8th 2008, where the “Ecumenical Hellenism” Program will distribute 785 free volumes to the Members of Parliament. Afterwards, honors were given to the World Commission for the Return of the Parthenon Sculptures.

The international historical information on the return of the Parthenon Sculptures is one of the objectives of the Program. For this purpose, 3,000 volumes of the project “Hellenic Treasures of the World” translated into nine languages, of which three are Chinese, Arabic and Russian, will be distributed free of charge to the centers of power all over the world.
The Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronimos, the representative of the Prime Minister, Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Kostas Kiltidis, the representative and member of the Parliament Mrs. Maria Kollia-Tsaroucha, the President of the Democratic Revival Mr. Papathemelis Stelios and the representative of the Mayor of Athens Mr. Vafidiadis Nikolaos were some of those who honored the event.

VOTE “INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE RETURN OF THE PARTHENON MARBLES”

The International Union for the reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures believes that now is the right time for the Greek nation to make a new, unified proposal towards Britain, to return the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece, that now are in the British Museum, so they can be exhibited at the New Acropolis Museum.

The International Union is made of member committees from 15 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.

The International Union wishes to continue its cooperation with the Greek Government and support its efforts for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece and congratulates the Government for the successful completion of the wonderful New Acropolis Museum. We also congratulate all those who have worked these recent years for the return of major sculptures of the Parthenon from Italy, the Vatican, Sweden and Germany.

A new PROPOSAL for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures should respect the positions of both sides.
• The issue should be dealt with without prejudices by both sides regarding the title and legal ownership of the Parthenon Sculptures.
• The Sculptures can be returned to Greece by the British Museum as a renewable loan provided that all terms of a cultural agreement are met.
• Greece should be prepared to grant appropriate works of art from Greek Museums in exchange for the sculptures as a mutual loan, so they can be exhibited at the British Museum.

The International Union for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures believes that any new proposal for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures should have the support of the Greek community and be presented in a single voice.

Five hundred celebrities attended the event organized by the “Program of Ecumenical Hellenism” in Athinais on Monday, March 31st. In the crowded hall, after all the attendees “traveled” all over the planet with the projection of the Program’s missions to the centers of Hellenism, then the Program’s President, Stavros Panousopoulos, announced the continuation of the program for the next decade.
The international historical information on the return of the Parthenon Marbles is one of the program’s objectives. For this purpose, 3,000 volumes of the project “Hellenic Treasures around the World” translated into nine languages, of which three are Chinese, Arabic and Russian, was distributed free of charge to the centers of power of the whole world. Mrs. Xeni Arapogianni, Director of the Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Kalamata and former Director of the Museum of Ancient Olympia, author of the project, made the presentation with especially flattering comments.
The Mayor of Athens Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis, the representative of the Prime Minister Mr. Kassimis, the representative of the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos Bishop of Diavlia, Mr. Damaskinos, the representatives of PASOK Niotis Grigoris, SYRIZA Trigazis Panos, LAOS Georgiadis Adonis, The President of the Democratic Republic Papathemelis Stelios, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development Kiltidis Kostas, the MP of Messinia Mr. Lampropoulos Ioannis were only some of those who honored the event and expressed their support for this effort .
Messages were sent by the President of the Parliament Mr. Sioufas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Dora Bakoyanni, the Minister of Economy and Finance Mr. Alogoskoufis, the Minister of Tourism Mr. Spiliotopoulos, the Minister of Justice Mr. Chatzigakis, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr. Chatzidakis, the Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Tzimas, the Minister of Development Mr. Folias, the Deputy Minister of Domestic affairs Mr. Zois.
At the event, Nikos Chatzinikolaou and Lakis Lazopoulos were honored, while Nikos Aliagas as a Dispersed Greek who attended and received the “Golden Crown” of “Ecumenical Hellenism” gave a very touching speech to the crowd attending. The event was presented by Grigoris Valtinos and Anna Andrianou, while the Athens Philharmonic welcomed the guests.
The evening’s epilogue was particularly touching as it consisted of a television tribute to the two great Orthodox and Gnostic Archbishops Iakovos and Christodoulos, while the Professor of the Aristotle University, Athanasios Agelopoulos, made a special mention of them. More than forty representatives of the press and all the Greek television channels covered the event while ANT1 SATELLITE broadcasted it all over the world.
